Self-service BI is really a combination of parts that get bolted onto an existing BI solution in order to make it more user-friendly. However, this doesn’t mean that the technical infrastructure is any less important. Data still has to be cleansed, sanitised, integrated, merged and stored so that it can be mobilised for a self-service solution. A self-service solution that rests on an operational source system will only cause load for the application that rests on the source system.
